The night was silent — too silent. As if the world itself was holding its breath.
She stood where the veil had torn, heart pounding. She had seen him. He was there, trapped in that endless abyss, reaching for her, eyes filled with something she couldn’t name. Was it hope? Despair? A warning?
But the moment had slipped through her fingers.
And now, the world was shifting.
The First Warning
It started subtly.
A flickering streetlight. A whisper of a voice she couldn’t quite place. The creeping sensation that something was watching her.
Then, it escalated.
Her reflection in the mirror didn’t move when she did.
Pages of books turned on their own, revealing passages she had never read.
Footsteps echoed behind her when no one was there.
Fate had noticed her defiance.
And fate was angry.
The Mark of the Condemned
She woke to pain searing through her wrist.
With a gasp, she clutched her arm, only to see it — a mark burning itself into her skin. A symbol. Ancient. Unmistakable.
The Mark of the Condemned.
She had read about it in the texts.
“Those who defy the order of fate shall bear its mark, forever hunted until their existence is erased.”
A cold realization sank in.
They weren’t just stopping her.
They were going to erase her, too.
A Visitor from the Other Side.
That night, she didn’t sleep. She couldn’t. The mark pulsed, a cruel reminder that time was slipping away.
And then — she heard the voice.
“You shouldn’t have tried.”
She shot up from the bed, heart hammering.
A figure stood in the shadows of her room.
Not human. Not quite spirit. Something in between.
It wore a tattered cloak, its face shrouded in shifting darkness. But its voice — its voice was painfully familiar.
“You should have let me go.”
Her breath caught.
“No.” She took a step forward. “You’re — “
The figure recoiled, the shadows rippling around it.
“I am not him.”
But she saw it — a flicker in the dark. A glimpse of the man she had lost.
Fate hadn’t erased him.
It had twisted him.
And if she didn’t stop this…
It would do the same to her.
